Rhetorical Review Draft 2

The show The Honeymooners was created in the 1950’s, and only aired for 11 months, from 1955 to 1956. After the last episode, everyone thought it would be the last they saw of Ralph and Alice. I am pretty sure that no one would have thought that there would have been a movie created from the show afterwards. However, in 2005, someone decided that they wanted to create a movie that was basically a reenactment of the tv series. In my opinion, the movie was a success. The movie was made as a modern version of the sitcom and they also changed the race of the important characters of the show. Additionally, the movie was very funny but it was also tear jerking. Ralph on the movie showed way more compassion towards his wife than the Ralph on the sitcom. There were no violent outburst or threats made to her. The movie that was adapted from the sitcom, The Honeymooners, was a successful remake of the show. The creators made the sitcom more into a family movie instead of just an adult television show.
The original show was created in the 1950’s by white people, for white people. There were not many black people casted on tv during this time and there definitely were no African American film producers or creators yet. Also, there were not a lot of African American actors that had important parts in films. They were usually casted as slaves or maids. However, the creator of the movie version chose to cast all of the important characters as black people. The movie was released in 2005, so in modern times, this was not controversial and there were many qualified black actors that could fit the part. Cedric the Entertainer is not only a actor but he also is a comedian. He was a great fit for the part because of his size and shape just like Ralph from the sitcom was of a larger body size. The other actors were also great fits and played their parts very well.
The movie was more amusing compared to the sitcom. The sitcom included satire and violent outburst and threats from Ralph for humor while the movie did not. There was just jokes and sometimes silly replies and situations to make the movie a comedy. The creators of the movie did not have to make Ralph seem as a deranged person who would take his anger out on any one around him. They portrayed him more as a family man who wanted nothing but to take care of his family, while the sitcom made Ralph seem as a money hungry selfish man. Also, instead of making Norton to look like an imbecile, he was seen more as a man who believed in his best friend and wanted to help him anyway he could.
