Tittlová, Marcela, and Peter Papáček. “Factors Contributing to Domestic Violence.” International Journal of Entrepreneurial Knowledge, vol. 6, no. 2, Dec. 2018, pp. 117–124. EBSCOhost, doi:10.2478/IJEK-2018-0019.

This article is about the factors that can cause domestic violence to take place in a family’s household. The article discusses the risk factors of different members of the family from the seniors to the children, that could be a mental, emotional, or physical problem for them and causes them become the abuser. One of the authors is Marcela Tittlová. Tittlová is a researcher that works at The Faculty of Law of Pan-European University, where she works in the Department of Criminal Law Division as an assistant professor. She also helped co-write four other article which two of them are also based on domestic violence. Peter Papáček, is an author of this article as well. He also works at The Faculty of Law of Pan-European University. He too wrote another article that was also about domestic violence. This article and the article “Risk Factors for Domestic Violence in Women and Predictors of Development of Mental Disorders in These Women” are alike because they both mention the risk factors that can cause abuse in domestic violence household. Except the other article discusses abuse directly on women and how it can cause mental orders. This article is relevant to my paper because it brings up many different reasons that domestic violence can be happening in a family’s home. For example, television shows portray a lot of husbands as heavy drinkers, and that is one of the factors that could cause a man to become abusive.

Sardinha, LynnMarie, and Héctor E. Nájera Catalán. “Attitudes towards Domestic Violence in 49 Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Gendered Analysis of Prevalence and Country-Level Correlates.” PLoS ONE, vol. 13, no. 10, Oct. 2018, pp. 1–18. EBSCOhost, doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0206101.

This article is about the attitudes and acceptance of domestic violence. LynnMarie Sardinha is a researcher at the University of Bristol. She has done a lot of research on domestic violence and other topics that were published in different articles. Héctor E. Nájera Catalán has a PhD in Social Policy from the University of Bristol and a couple other degrees. He is currently a Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol and has also done a few other research on domestic violence that had been published in articles too. To compare this article and the article, “Indirect Self- Destructiveness in Women Who Experience Domestic Violence”. They are talking about total different sections of domestic violence. For example, this article is about society’s view of domestic violence and the other article is talking about a Woman’s state of mind during and after going through the abuse. The research of this article is relevant to my topic because it touches on my exact topic on how society has accepted domestic violence to be shown on media outlets, but especially television shows. An example from the article that I would use in my research paper will be how people view domestic violence being a public or private issue in homes.

ALMİŞ, Behice HAN, KÜTÜK, Emel KOYUNCU, GÜMÜŞTAŞ, Funda, and ÇELİK, Mustafa. “Risk Factors for Domestic Violence in Women and Predictors of Development of Mental Disorders in These Women.” Archives of Neuropsychiatry / Noropsikiatri Arsivi, vol. 55, no. 1, Mar. 2018, pp. 67–72. EBSCOhost, doi:10.29399/npa.19355.

This article is about the prediction of physical violence toward a woman based on their levels of education and income of both the man and woman. Also, this article is about if it is able to predict if the physical abuse would cause mental disorders in a woman afterwards. Three of the authors are all employed as researchers in departments of psychiatry of different university hospitals in Adiyaman, Turkey. The fourth author works as a researcher also, but in the department of child and adolescent psychiatry in another university hospital in Adiyaman, Turkey. To compare this article and the article, “Factors Contributing to Domestic Violence”. This article talks specifically of the risk factors of domestic violence in women while the other article talks about the risk factors of domestic violence of everyone in the house. The research of this article is relevant to my research paper because it would go more into depth on the physical part of domestic violence and the effects that it could have on women mentally since my research paper is focusing on the abuse towards a woman. For example, it is important that I include the income of both spouses since the wife was dependent on the husband.

Tsirigotis, Konstantinos, and Joanna Łuczak. “Indirect Self-Destructiveness in Women Who Experience Domestic Violence.” The Psychiatric Quarterly, vol. 89, no. 3, Sept. 2018, pp. 521–532. EBSCOhost, doi: 10.1007/s11126-017-9560-5.

This article is about how domestic violence can indirectly be connected to self-destructive behaviors in women. Women that have experienced domestic violence was found to have a higher change in self-destructiveness more than a woman who did not experience domestic violence. Both of the authors, Tsirigotis and Łuczak, are researchers that are currently working at the Department of Psychology, at a university in Poland. To compare this article to the article, “Risk Factors for Domestic Violence in Women and Predictors of Development of Mental Disorders in These Women”. Both articles are talking about what could happen to a woman after they experience domestic violence. But this article is discussing all measures of a woman from mental to physical to social health decrease afterwards while the other article just focuses on the mental health decrease of a woman after experiencing domestic violence. The research of the topic of this article is important to my research paper because it brings up the problem of woman not being able to move on with life and continue to be success without someone having control over their decisions and lives after getting out of their domestic situations. For example, domestic violence cases dealing with men and woman are usually controlling and the woman could not be able to be independent financially and socially which would damage them after leaving the violent person.

Barnett, Ola, Cindy L. Miller-Perrin and Robin D. Perrin. "Family violence across the lifespan: An introduction, 2nd ed." Thousand Oaks, CA, US: Sage Publications, Inc (2005).

This book is about the many different aspects of domestic violence in a home. For example, the different topics they brought up in the book were: the treatment, prevalence, and prevention of violence in a home. All three of the authors, Barnett, Miller-Perrin, And Perrin, are book writers of different psychology related books. They write books that are about the abuse and mental states of children and adults that have experienced domestic violence. To compare this book to the article, “Risk Factors for Domestic Violence in Women and Predictors of Development of Mental Disorders in These Women”. The article is more about how to predict if domestic violence is possible to happen in a home. While the book talks about how to know if domestic violence is present in a household and how to deal with it and go about helping. The research of this book is relevant to my research paper because it contributes to the information of an outsider that’s looking in and who is trying to help the victim(s) out of a deadly situation. For example, I will use the ways to tell if someone is going through domestic violence from small details like bruises from physical abuse or withdrawal and low confidence from mental abuse.
